Beautiful Easy Tags for Bins & Baskets

One of my favorite uses for a tissue box is to make tags with it. Tissue boxes have pretty and colorful designs, are thin enough cardboard to cut, and make sturdy tags for your bins and baskets. I have one set in my kitchen for dish cloths, cloth napkins, dust rags, and aprons, and another set for our craft cubes.

Kitchen Baskets

Dish Towels LabelSupplies you need:

  • Tissue boxes
  • Scrapbook paper in complementary color(s) to tissue box designs.
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Glue stick
  • Color printer (or you can have them printed at an office center)
  • Ribbon, yarn, or other string or velcro tabs
  • Single hole punch
  • Camera or digital images (For kids’ tags, images are better than text. Then they know what’s in the bins whether they can read or not).
  • Laminator or self-seal laminating pouches (optional)

How to Make Easy Tags for Bins & Baskets:

  1. Make a list of the text or picture labels you want to make.
  2. Cut tissue boxes into number of tags you’ll need. Squares and rectangles are easiest. Cut scrapbook paper and glue to cardboard side of tissue box.
  3. For text labels: Type your list of tags in an easy to read font. I like Calibri. You can download cool free fonts at dafont.com. You can even change text to a color that is in the tissue box design. Print the labels on scrapbook paper.
  4. For image labels: Take a picture of representative item from the basket or do a web search for images of that object. You can save the images, size them consistently, and print them out.
  5. Glue labels onto tissue box/scrapbook tags.
  6. (Optional) If you have a laminator or want to use self seal laminating pouches, they’ll be waterproof and sturdier.
  7. Hole punch tags and string ribbon or yarn through. Tie to to your baskets. If you don’t have a handle or place to tie the tags, you can also use double sided velcro to attach the tags. See how at Home Sweet Home Inspiration.
